Day 1 Part 1 - Man Plans - God Laughs

June 19, 2021 Today we leave for Santa Fe, or so we think. It is pretty early and I can hear thunder and the rain is coming down pretty hard. Rob got up early and took a shower. That seemed like a good idea. It was 5:00 am, we are leaving at 6:30 for an 8:41 flight. We are all packed and I just have to have a cup of tea, eat something and get ready. I hear an anguished cry from the office. Rob tells me to not worry about hurrying, our flight is delayed. OK, we can do this. To when is it delayed? 11:30. Do we have the same seats? Oh wait, they have also canceled our return flight. Sigh, this is so not the way to start a vacation. Rob sorts through things and we decide on our return flight and choose seats as we can, the rest will be a surprise. We have seats for the first leg of the flight there, but not for the second, they will assign that at the airport. It looks to be full flights. We have been taking aisle seats across from each other, that does not seem to be available. Rob comments that it is a good thing that I lost weight, we will need all of the room that we can get on the flights. Our return flights will be long and late, unless we can get to Albuquerqe for a 5:00 am flight. One of our options has us going Albuquerque to Dallas/Fort Worth to Miami to Cincinnati. Um, no. Our plan today had been to stop for dinner at a great place in Albuerque for lunch then have a light dinner. Now we will have brunch at home and eat dinner in Albuquerque. We are also going to alert the car rental place that we will be late. The way that car rentals are going we cannot take a chance on them giving our car away. We are watching the weather to see what our chances are of taking at at 11:00. Sigh, not the best way to start a vacation. Stay Tuned

Day 7 - "Watch Out for the First Step it's a Doozy"

This is our last day in Santa Fe and our first day to really explore around the square. Rob starts packing the dirty clothes, we have to be out of here tomorrow by 10:00 am and our flight out of Albuquerque is not until 4:40. This does mean one more stop at El Modelo. We are getting something lighter to eat, not something that takes us 2 days to finish. After breakfast we got in the car and drove off to where I saw the pine nuts truck on Wednesday. Yeah, yeah, I am having my "Ahab moment" here. Nope, no pine nut truck. OK, water bottles filled - check, sunscreen, check - dorky tourist sun hats on, check. Time to take off for the square. Those selling on the sidewalk in front of the square are limited to members of the 23 federally recognized tribes in New Mexico. We are very lucky, this just reopened 2 weeks ago. Normally those selling are right noext to each other, now there is 6' between them and they extend around the corner. We were told that there is a lotter...

Day 1 Part 2 "Would it Have Been Faster to Drive Here?"

We had rain overnight and it continued this morning. It poured the entire way to the airport, I mean the wipers were really going fast. If you have ever driven anywhere with me you would know that I tend to view speed limits and suggestions. I drove well under the speed limit. On our way to the airport we saw one car in the ditch and one accident. Good reminder to drive slowly. We get to the parking facility. They tell us what row to use and we drive and drive and drive. I am beginning to wonder if we are going to cross back into Ohio soon. Aha, we find a parking place, there was not a lot left to this row. We struggle to get the sun shade up, not easy, it is not big enough for my van. I pop the hatch for Rob and start to get myself pulled together. I go to the back of the van and only see our "personal" bags, not the rolling suitcases. Momentary panic! Did we leave them at home? Oh, the shuttle driver took them out of the van for us. Day 5 "Oh Ye'll Take the High Road and I'll Take the Wrong Road"

Did you ever have a day when you woke up excited about the day ahead and then reality smacks you in the head? Yeah, reality sucks. We started the day with frozen cottage cheese. Not the most exciting breakfast. When we travel I do the majority of the driving and Rob is the navigoar. He has this amazing ability to look at a map and remember where and when we need to turn. I call him Vasco da Gama. Every once in a while Vasco gets confused or in the case today the State of New Mexico is not exactly generous with signage. We took off with lots of water, my camera, a couple of sodas and hope for a great day. Just out of town we saw someone selling pine nuts on the side of the road. Tomas on the walking tour yesterday told us to look for trucks selling the pine nuts. He had some for us to sample and they do taste a lot better than what I have been buying.
